About A2A and the project:
A2A, Italy's top multi-utility firm, is launching an innovative venture, PeaX through its Corporate Venture Building unit. This new project focuses on a cutting-edge district heating substation designed to dramatically improve the efficiency and sustainability of district heating networks. This initiative aligns with global efforts towards decarbonization.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a visionary CTO/Head of Engineering to spearhead the development and testing of our groundbreaking new product. This pivotal role demands a robust blend of technical prowess in thermal engineering and product certification, coupled with strong leadership abilities to steer a focused and agile R&D team through vital development stages towards a successful market launch.
Challenge
Key Responsibilities.
- Product Development: Lead the end-to-end development of the district heating substation, from conceptual design and simulation (heat exchange, finite elements, etc.) to prototyping and certification, ensuring the product meets all technical and performance specifications.
- Team Leadership: Direct a small yet expanding R&D team, fostering an inclusive culture, driving product development, and supporting client PoCs within 9-12 months.
- Collaboration & Compliance: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including academic institutions for materials research. Assist in the product certification process, with a keen eye on achieving CE marking standards.
- IP Strategy & Innovation: Support efforts to protect and expand the venture's intellectual property, leveraging experience in patent strategy where applicable.
- Technical Architecture and Infrastructure: Design the organization's technical architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability of the district heating substation.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Create and manage technology budgets, allocating resources optimally to support various initiatives while maintaining financial discipline.
Superpowers
Your Expertise.
- Proven track record in leading product development and testing in thermal engineering or related fields (Mechanical, Chemical, Material Science, Electrical Engineering), with hands-on experience in design, simulation using CAD tools, and certification processes.
- Leadership experience with the ability to scale teams and manage projects efficiently.
- Technical proficiency in prototyping, high-density accumulation materials, CAD and simulation tools, and familiarity with product certification processes is highly desirable.
- Analytical skills with a strong capability in data analysis to inform design decisions and improve product performance.
- Experience in IP strategy and patent management is a significant plus.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Italian is nice-to-have.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
